Mix 2

JIVE|HOURS|mix|2
tracklist and reviews after the jump
1. Glass Candy - Feeling Without Touching
|| No one else these days does electro-pop quite like OR natives Glass Candy. The beat is HEAVY without being dark, and Ida No's vocals are sexy as ever.
2. Dum Dum Girls - Baby Don't Go
|| Their album "I Will Be" is boring, but this closing track is nice. Sweet, folky, and intimate-reverb over the hollow-and-dead reverb that pervades the rest of the LP.
3. Beach Fossils - Daydream
|| Melancholy intertwining guitar lines and somber alternating-note melodies.  Nearly perfect.
4. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Better Things
|| A rock-solid soul number from the best Motown Revivalists in the business.  Comes from the LP "I Learned the Hard Way" on Daptone Records.
5. Washed Out - Untitled #2 (from 2010 Tour CD-R)
|| I've been waiting to hear more from this guy.  This fast 8-bit tune makes me think his next official release ought to be fun at least.
6. Gold Panda - You
|| Is this dubstep? People say so; but Gold Panda stands alone in the amount of feeling he brings to the form.  Glitchy vocals, murky beats,  Transcendent. (cool website too)
7. Kourosh Yaghmaie - Gol-e Yakh
|| From a compilation LP of Iranian music of the 60s/70s called "Pomegranates." Soulful, dude.
8. QUARTERBACKS
|| Tweeeee.  These guys are (were) fun. I know them. dl the EP here: "A Symbiotic Split"
9. Broken Social Scene - Ungrateful Little Father
|| From their new "Forgiveness Rock Record." I like the rhythmic tracks (like this one), the others I could do without.
10. Clues - "You Have My Eyes Now"
|| This is the band that Alden Penner formed after the Unicorns, off their 2008 self-titled (and only) record (The other dude Nick 'Diamonds' formed Islands).  If The Unicorns were The Beatles, would Penner be Lennon or McCartney?
||
++ Dr. Dog did an amazing (and psychedelic) Daytrotter session. listen it to it, dude.
